Oddisee Feat. Olivier Daysoul “Mattered Much”

“Mattered Much was not initially made for Rock Creek Park, but after putting together nine songs for the album, Oddisee went back into the hard drive, rediscovered this song up, and realized it was perfect for the album. Oddisee’s really proud of the drum programming on this track, it took him “a long ass time to program all those rolls”. The guitars played by Andy Faus give it such a grimy feel while Lucan Pipkin’s strings polish the track. Definitely a track produced by the ’96 Reasonable Doubt in Oddisee, meeting up with the 4Hero in him. This is the official vocal version of the track featuring Olivier Daysoul.”

Oddisee Feat. yU “Still Doing It”

“Oddisee’s album, an ode to his favorite park in Washington D.C., entitled “Rock Creek Park” is available now exclusively at iTunes for the reduced price of $7.99. The official CD release date is September 6th, but iTunes has it now for all the folks that can’t wait to grab this new release from Oddisee and indie powerhouse Mello Music Group.

In his own words, Oddisee states:

“This has been one of my most productive summers & somehow I’ve managed to still enjoy the outdoors. I moved to Brooklyn, New York in October so this has been my first official summer in NYC. The inspiration I’ve received from my new environment has definitely had a positive impact on my music.”

“Once the weather broke, I spent allot of time cycling around New York & through its parks. It reminded me how much I loved Rock Creek Park in my home town, Washington, DC.”

“This album is dedicated to Rock Creek Park & the memories its given me.”

“I won’t waste your time with my sentimental connection to Rock Creek. In fact, I’m almost certain you’ll hear it in the music. There’s a story behind every title on this album & if you care to know about this record beyond the sound, it can be found in the liner notes.”

“Without further ado, I bring you Rock Creek Park, my newest release on Mello Music Group.”

Today check out the free mp3 download of the only vocal track from the album, featuring Diamond District member yU. A fitting nod to the classic jam “Rock Creek Park” from The Blackbyrds, yU showcases why he’s one of the most unrated MCs in the game right now. yU is also putting the final touches on his own upcoming album “The Earn” dropping soon via Mello Music Group.”

Oddisee “The Carter Barron”

The Background:
The always prolific Oddisee is preparing to release his newest instrumental project, an ode to the Washington DC’s famous Rock Creek Park. The new album (a warm up for his proper solo coming this winter) features heavy live instrumentation alongside rich samples that gives the new project a sonically full 3-dimensional sound. Today, Oddisee offers up the first Rock Creek Park instrumental single, The Carter Barron.

The Song:
The Carter Barron is a smooth, sweeping track, with amazing drums performed by DC’s Jon Laine, bass from DC’s Dennis Turner, keys from the always dependable Ralph Real, soulful sampling, trademark expansive synth work from Oddisee and beautiful orchestration.

A Short History:
The Carter Barron is named after the park’s amphitheatre, a 4,200 seat outdoor performance venue in Washington, DC. Located in Rock Creek Park. The amphitheatre opened in 1950 in honor of the 150th Anniversary of Washington, DC as the nation’s capital. The National Park Service operates Carter Barron, offering a variety of quality performances, including Hip-Hop, reggae, Latin, classical, gospel, musicals, pop, R&B, jazz, new age, theater, and dance. Oddisee “The Blooming” (Video)

“Belgium’s ZBS Studio reached out to Mello Muisc Group about permission to do a video for Oddisee’s “The Blooming”. MMG of course was honored to have them interpret the song and apply their vision to the track. The resulting marriage of visual storytelling & instrumental perfection is a narrative work that tells the story of time’s passage in the life of a boy. The video was directed, shot, & edited by Tomasz Cibulla and Wojciech Drożdż of ZBS Studios in Belgium.

Filled with rich landscapes from Belgium’s countryside, smokey ambers, old typewriters, watches, clocks, and a father and son, The Blooming portrays life’s unfolding through the metaphor of time. Oddisee’s original track was last springs soundtrack to the rains and blooming growth of nature. Rich strings, bold piano, wood block, synth, flute, and snares that rest easy in the backdrop drive this instrumental track from Odd Seasons.”
